My Smarticles - Gold Parties

“The question is... Gold parties, only big in America? ”

Gold Parties, are they only big in America?

Gold parties are popular in America, they're "all the rage" as my Nan
would say! But the gold party idea does not seem to be taking off
here in the U. K.We are certainly cashing in on our unwanted gold but
gold parties? There are booths popping up in every town where we can
lay out our unwanted bling or companies offering to send us envelopes for our old gold, so why aren't we rushing to organise gold parties?

What is a gold party?

So, what is a gold party? Think of it as Tupperware party, only in
reverse. A party host will invite their friends and neighbours around
to their house, asking them to bring along any old, broken and
unwanted items of jewellery for valuation. Also in attendance will be
a jewellery appraiser who tests and values each item. If you’re happy
with the price offered, you’re paid on-the-spot for your gold.

Now that frugal is fashionable, inviting friends to your home to buy
something they don't want or can pick up in their local high street
seems almost pointless - But asking them to bring their unwanted
loot and walk away with cash instead of spending it? Now that's the
point of a gold party.

Only big in America?

So, what is holding us Brits back from hosting gold parties? Are we
too shy to share the secrets hidden in our old unwanted gold? Or
perhaps despite knowing we are all feeling the pinch getting together
to raise a few extra pennies just feels like admitting how tough it
is to make ends meet? It could be that the idea of gaining commission
on our friends old gold feels like cashing in on their misfortune?
Whatever the reason, it just doesn't seem to fit with the "British
way" of doing things. I think it seems like a great excuse for a
party and a good old gossip, and going home with more cash in your
purse has to be good.

So we will have to wait and see if hosting gold parties becomes popular in the UK, but I'm still waiting for my first invite!
